To ensure you have everything you need for a successful repair, you can find a high-quality replacement Apple Watch SE Display and the necessary tool kit right here.

⚠️ Pre-Repair Precautions

  • Protect Your Fingers – Keep fingers away from the sharp edge of the blade. Heavy leather or gardening gloves are highly recommended.

  • Control Your Force – Apply gentle, controlled pressure to the blade to prevent it from slipping and causing injury or damaging the watch.

  • Wear Eye Protection – Blades or cracked screen glass can snap and fly up.

  • Band Management – Remove or reattach the watch bands as needed throughout the repair to maintain a secure grip and optimal control over the watch body.

  • Power Off & Disconnect – Completely power off the watch and disconnect it from the charger before starting to prevent electrical shorts.

Phase 1: Remove the Display

Step 1: Heat the Edge

Use a heat gun or hair dryer to heat the edge of the watch. This softens the adhesive holding the display in place.

Step 2: Open the Display

1. Starting from the top of the watch (the side near the Digital Crown), insert the edge of the blade into the seam between the glass screen and the case.

2. Press gently and vertically downward, then tilt the blade slightly to wedge open a microscopic gap.

3. Insert a plastic opening pick into the gap to replace the blade.

Slide the pick along the edges of the watch to slice through the adhesive.

⚠️ CRITICAL: Keep the pick insertion depth ≤ 2mm. The delicate display cables sit right beneath the Digital Crown side, so the slice here must be extremely shallow.

4. Gently flip the display open toward the bottom of the watch (like opening a book).

Step 3: Separate the Display

  • Use the pick to slice through the remaining adhesive along the short and long edges.

  • Gently flip the display open toward the short edge away from the Digital Crown (like opening a book).

🔥 DO NOT pull it completely off yet – The screen is still tethered to the logic board by fragile ribbon cables.

Step 4: Disconnect the Display Cables (The Critical Step!)

1. Heat the ZIF connector area briefly (or apply 90%+ isopropyl alcohol to the black adhesive foil using a cotton swab and wait 2 minutes).

2. Use tweezers to carefully peel back the black tape covering the connectors (it tears easily, so be gentle).

3. Use the pointed tip of a spudger to flip all three locking tabs upward until they stand vertical.

4. Use tweezers to gently pry up the left and right edges of the cable sticker (DO NOT completely remove the sticker; just detach it enough so the cables are no longer stuck down).

5. Carefully pull the display ribbon cable out of its ZIF socket.

6. The screen assembly is now completely separated from the watch body.

Phase 2: Cleaning and Testing

Step 5: Thoroughly Clean Residual Adhesive

  • Dip a cotton swab in isopropyl alcohol and carefully clean away all remaining old adhesive chunks from the aluminum rim of the case and the sensor ring. A pristine surface is vital for a strong new seal.

Step 6: Test the New display Before Sealing

1. Before applying any new adhesive, temporarily connect the new screen cables and the battery connector back into place.

2. Press and hold the Digital Crown/Side Button to turn the watch on. Test the display for defects and check if the touch responsiveness works perfectly.

3. Once verified, power down the watch, disconnect the battery again, and remove the new screen to prepare for final sealing.

Phase 3: Reassembly

Step 7: Apply New Waterproof Adhesive

Precisely align and press down a pre-cut waterproof adhesive gasket onto the cleaned perimeter of the aluminum watch case.

Step 8: Final Interconnects

1. Re-snap the new screen cables and the battery cable back onto the logic board.

2. Re-position the metal protective bracket and secure it tightly with the Y000 screws.

Step 9: Close and Clamp the Display

1. Carefully fold the display cables inward and align the screen squarely with the watch case. Lower it down smoothly.

2. Use your fingers to apply gentle, firm pressure around the edges to seat the screen onto the adhesive.

3. It is highly recommended to place the watch under a couple of micro-clamps or press it under a heavy book for at least 30 minutes to allow the adhesive to cure completely.

  • Note: Post-repair, the watch's deep water resistance will be significantly compromised. Avoid swimming or submerging the watch in water.
