⚠️Safety & Preparation
-
Safety Warning: Discharge your iPhone battery below 25% before starting. A charged lithium-ion battery can catch fire or explode if accidentally punctured during repair.
-
Power Off: Ensure the device is completely powered down.
-
Protect the Glass: If your screen is cracked, cover it entirely with clear packing tape. This prevents glass shards from escaping and maintains the structural integrity of the display while you use a suction cup.
Phase 1: Opening the Device
Step 1: Remove Pentalobe Screws
- Remove the two 6.7 mm Pentalobe screws located on either side of the Lightning charging port.
Step 2: Heat the Edge
- Use an heat gun or hair dryer to heat the bottom edge of the iPhone. This softens the adhesive holding the display in place. This softens the waterproof adhesive securing the display.
Step 3: Opening the Phone
1. Suction: Attach a suction cup to the lower half of the screen.
2. Pry: Pull up on the suction cup to create a slight gap between the screen and the rear case. Insert an opening pick.
3. Cut the Adhesive: Slide the pick along the left, right, and bottom edges.
· Caution: Do not insert the pick more than 2-3 mm into the device to avoid damaging internal ribbon cables.
Step 4: Open it Like a Book
1. Swing Right: The display cables are on the right side. Open the screen from the left to the right, like opening a book.
2. Support: Prop the screen up against a steady object so it stays vertical. Do not let it hang, as this will strain or tear the delicate cables.
Phase 2: Remove the Screen
Step 5: Remove the Bracket
1. Remove the two screws securing the display cable bracket.
2. Remove the four screws securing the front sensor assembly cover plate.
3. Lift and remove two metal bracket.
Step 6: Disconnect the connector
1. Use a plastic spudger to pry the battery connector straight up out of its socket.
2. Use the spudger to disconnect the display cable connector and the digitizer cable connector.
3. Use the spudger to disconnect the front sensor & earpiece assembly connector.
Step 7: Remove the Screen
Carefully lift the old display panel away. It is now completely separated from the phone housing.
Phase 3: Transferring the Earpiece & Sensor Assembly
Note: You must transfer the original front sensor assembly to the new screen to retain Face ID and auto-brightness functionality.
Step 8: Remove Sensor Screws
- Remove the four screws securing the speaker/sensor assembly on the back of the old display.
Step 9: Remove Entire Assembly
1. Flip the earpiece speaker assembly downward (away from the top edge) to expose the delicate sensors underneath.
2. Slightly heat the front top face of the screen to soften the adhesive beneath the sensors.
2. Use an opening pick or fine tweezers to very carefully pry and slide underneath the microphone, ambient light sensor, proximity sensor, and flood illuminator module to separate them from their plastic recess. Do not pull or strain the thin ribbon cables.
Phase 4: Reassembly & Finishing
- Install Sensors: Place the original assembly into the new screen and tighten the screws.
- Clean & Apply Adhesive: Remove old residue and apply new waterproof adhesive tape.
- Connect Cables: Snap the display and touch connectors in, then the front sensor. Connect the battery last.
- Test: Power on to check display, touch, and Face ID before sealing.
- Secure & Seal: Reinstall brackets, align the top edge of the screen, and press down the sides until flush.
- Bottom Screws: Reinstall the two Pentalobe screws.
