This comprehensive guide provides step-by-step instructions for replacing an iPhone 14 screen. If your iPhone 14 has a cracked display, touch issues, or a black screen, you can purchase high-quality replacement parts and use this guide to complete the repair yourself.
⚠️Critical Warnings & Preparation
-
Battery Safety: Before you begin, discharge your iPhone battery below 25%. A charged lithium-ion battery can catch fire or explode if accidentally punctured.
-
Power Off: Completely power off the iPhone before starting the disassembly.
-
Cracked Glass Protection: If your screen or rear glass is badly cracked, cover it with clear packing tape before the repair. This prevents further breakage, maintains suction cup adhesion, and protects you from personal injury. Always wear safety glasses during the process.
Phase 1: Opening the Device
Step 1: Remove the Bottom Screws
Remove the two pentalobe P2 screws located on either side of the charging/Lightning port at the bottom edge of the phone.
Step 2: Heat the Edges
Use a hair dryer or heat gun to warm the bottom edge of the iPhone for about 1 minute until it feels slightly hot to the touch.
Step 3: Create a Gap
-
Place a suction cup in the center of the bottom section of the screen, just above the charging port.
-
Pull up on the suction cup with firm, constant pressure to create a tiny gap between the screen assembly and the outer frame.
-
Tip: If the screen is exceptionally difficult to lift, reheat the bottom of the phone to further soften the waterproof adhesive.
Step 4: Slice the Adhesive Strips
-
Use the hair dryer to heat the remaining edges of the iPhone for about 1 minute.
-
Insert a triangular opening pick into the small gap you created at the bottom. Slide the pick carefully along the edges to separate the adhesive.
-
Crucial Warning: Do not insert the pick deeper than 3 mm. Inserting it too deep can permanently slice internal cables.
-
Fragile Area: The left edge of the iPhone houses two highly fragile flex cables. When separating the adhesive on the left side, insert two picks and proceed with extreme caution to avoid tearing them.
Step 5: Open the Phone
-
Remove the suction cup from the screen.
-
Open the iPhone by swinging the screen up from the right side, just like opening a book.
-
Pro Tip: Prop the screen up against a sturdy object (like a box or a book) during the repair to keep it supported at a 90-degree angle. Do not let it flop backward, or you will strain and damage the display cables.
Phase 2: Removing the Screen
Step 6: Remove the Cover Shields
1. Use a Y000 screwdriver to remove the screws securing the lower screen connector cover.
2. Gently lift the screen connector cover from the screw hole side and set it aside.
3. Use the Y000 screwdriver to remove the screws securing the upper front sensor connector cover.
4. Gently lift the front sensor connector cover from the screw hole side and remove it.
Step 7: Disconnect the Cables
1. Use a nylon spudger to pry the screen connector straight up out of its socket to disconnect the screen flex cable.
2. Use the pointed tip of a spudger to pry the front sensor connector straight up out of its socket to disconnect the front sensor flex cable.
Note: Always pry up connectors vertically. Do not push sideways, or you may damage the tiny pins inside the logic board socket.
Step 8: Remove the Screen and Clean the Frame
-
The connection between the screen and the chassis is now completely severed. You can safely remove the old screen assembly.
-
Use a specialized scraper or tool to peel off the large portions of the old, deformed waterproof adhesive from the housing frame.
-
Apply high-concentration isopropyl alcohol or rubbing alcohol (>90%) to a microfiber cloth or cotton swab to dissolve remaining residue and thoroughly clean the metal frame. A clean frame ensures the new adhesive bonds perfectly.
Phase 3: Transferring the Front Sensor Assembly
Important Note: This section demonstrates how to transfer the original front sensor assembly (including the microphone and sensors) to your new screen. If your replacement screen comes with this assembly pre-installed, please skip Phase 3.
Step 9: Remove the Front Sensor Protective Shield
-
Use a Y000 screwdriver to unscrew the two screws securing the sensor assembly protective shield on the back of the old screen.
-
Remove the front sensor shield using tweezers or your fingers.
Step 10: Remove the Front Sensor
-
Use a hair dryer to heat the top front of the screen for about 30 seconds to soften the adhesive beneath the sensors. Take care not to overheat the display panel.
-
Carefully pry up the ambient light sensor, proximity sensor, and microphone from their plastic recesses.
-
Insert a triangular opening pick beneath the bottom left corner of the front sensor assembly connector flex cable. Slide the pick smoothly underneath the cable assembly to separate it from the screen frame.
-
Carefully lift and remove the complete front sensor assembly.
Step 11: Install the Front Sensor onto the New Screen
-
Insert the ambient light sensor, proximity sensor, and microphone into their designated matching slots on the new screen first. This helps properly position and align the entire cable.
-
Press down gently to adhere the remaining flexible portion of the assembly firmly onto the new screen frame.
Phase 4: Reassembly and Testing
-
Pre-installation Test: Temporarily reconnect the screen and sensor cables to the logic board. Do not install the metal covers or adhesive yet. Power on the iPhone and thoroughly test the touch responsiveness, brightness, and front sensor functions.
-
Power Off Again: Once testing confirms everything works perfectly, power off the phone completely and disconnect the screen connectors once more.
-
Apply New Adhesive: Align and apply a new custom waterproof adhesive strip onto the phone's cleaned chassis frame, then peel off the top protective backing layer.
-
Final Assembly: Reconnect the cables, reinstall the metal connector covers with their Y000 screws, and fold the screen down into place.
-
Closing Tip: Carefully align the screen with the top edge first, then press down gently around the borders. Do not force it; press firmly but carefully to snap the display securely into the housing frame
