Important Notes and Warnings
1. Battery Safety:
Since the battery cannot be disconnected during the repair process, please exercise extreme caution. Never use metal pry tools or touch any exposed contacts inside the iPhone. In addition, reduce the battery charge level to below 25% to minimize the risk of fire or explosion.
2. Screen Damage Protection:
If the screen is severely cracked, cover it with clear tape before beginning the repair. This helps prevent further cracking and allows the suction cup to maintain a strong grip.
Part 1: Opening the Device
Step 1: Remove the Bottom Screws
Use a pentalobe screwdriver to remove the two screws located on both sides of the charging port.
Step 2: Heat the Bottom Edge of the Screen
Use a heat gun or hair dryer to warm the bottom edge of the screen until it feels slightly warm to the touch.
Step 3: Create a Gap
- Attach the suction cup handle to the bottom edge of the screen.
- Hold the device firmly with one hand and pull upward on the suction cup with the other hand to create a gap between the screen and the frame.
Step 4: Cut Through the Adhesive
Note: Do not insert the pick deeper than 3 mm. There are multiple spring contacts around the edges of the phone, as well as two flat cables on the left side.
- Insert an opening pick into the gap.
- Heat the right edge of the phone until it feels slightly warm, then slide a triangular pick along the edge to cut through the adhesive on the right side.
- Heat and cut through the adhesive along the top and left edges in sequence. Use multiple cutting tools if necessary.
Step 5: Open the Device
- Remove the suction cup from the screen.
- Flip the screen open from the right side toward the left, like opening a book.
- Rest the screen against a book or box, keeping it vertical or slightly tilted toward the left.
Part 2: Removing the Screen
Step 6: Remove the Protective Covers
1. Use a screwdriver to remove the screws securing the front sensor connector cover.
2. Use a screwdriver to remove the screws securing the display connector cover.
Step 7: Disconnect the Connectors
1. Use a spudger to gently pry up the display connector and disconnect it from its socket
2. Use a spudger to gently lift the front sensor connector and disconnect it from its socket.
Step 8: Remove the Screen
The screen is now completely disconnected. Remove it from the device.
Part 3: Transferring the Front Sensor Assembly
If your replacement screen already includes this assembly, skip this section.
Step 9: Remove the Protective Bracket
1. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the screw securing the ambient light sensor bracket.
2. Use tweezers or your fingers to remove the front sensor shield.
Step 10: Remove the Front Sensor
- Heat the adhesive underneath the sensor and its cable.
- Use a spudger to gently lift the sensor and separate the cable.
- Remove the front sensor assembly.
Step 11: Install the Front Sensor on the New Screen
- Insert the front sensor back into its original slot.
- Gently press the cable assembly onto the new screen to secure it in place.
Part 4: Cleaning and Reassembly
Step 12: Clean the Frame
- Use a specialized scraper or tool to remove large sections of deformed old waterproof adhesive from the housing frame.
- Use a cloth dampened with high-concentration (over 90%) isopropyl alcohol to wipe along the frame in one direction. Allow the alcohol to evaporate completely.
Step 13: Pre-Assembly Testing
- Reconnect the screen (do not reinstall the connector covers yet).
- Power on the phone and test the touch response, brightness, and front sensor functions.
Step 14: Reassembly
- Align and apply the new waterproof adhesive strip to the cleaned housing frame, then remove the top protective backing layer.
- Reconnect the screen and reinstall the connector protection covers.
- Align the top edge of the screen and press firmly downward until the screen snaps securely into place.
