⚠️Safety & Preparation

  • Safety Warning: Discharge your iPhone battery below 25% before starting. A charged lithium-ion battery can catch fire or explode if accidentally punctured during repair.

  • Power Off: Ensure the device is completely powered down.

  • Protect the Glass: If your screen is cracked, cover it entirely with clear packing tape. This prevents glass shards from escaping and maintains the structural integrity of the display while you use a suction cup.

Phase 1: Remove the Display

Step 1: Remove Pentalobe Screws

  • Remove the two 6.7 mm Pentalobe screws located on either side of the Lightning charging port.

Step 2: Heat the Edge

  • Use an heat gun or hair dryer to heat the bottom edge of the iPhone. This softens the adhesive holding the display in place. This softens the waterproof adhesive securing the display.

Step 3: Opening the Phone

1. Suction: Attach a suction cup to the lower half of the screen.

2. Pry: Pull up on the suction cup to create a slight gap between the screen and the rear case. Insert an opening pick.

3. Cut the Adhesive: Slide the pick along the left, right, and bottom edges.

· Caution: Do not insert the pick more than 2-3 mm into the device to avoid damaging internal ribbon cables.

Top Edge: The top is held by clips and adhesive. Gently pull the display assembly slightly down (away from the top edge) to disengage the clips.

Step 4: Open it Like a Book

1. Swing Right: The display cables are on the right side. Open the screen from the left to the right, like opening a book.

2. Support: Prop the screen up against a steady object so it stays vertical. Do not let it hang, as this will strain or tear the delicate cables.

Step 5: Remove the Display Connector Bracket

Unscrew the five Y000 screws securing the logic board bracket:

Step 6: Remove the Assembly

1. Battery: Use a spudger to pry up the battery connector first. This is critical to prevent short circuits.

2. Front Panel Sensor Assembly: Disconnect the top sensor cable.

3. Display Cables: Disconnect the OLED display connector and the digitizer (touch layer) connector.

4. Remove the Assembly: The screen assembly is now completely free. Set the chassis aside.

Step 7: Remove Speaker & Taptic Engine (Recommended)

  • Removing these gives better access to the battery adhesive strips.

  1. Speaker: Remove seven screws securing the bracket and speaker.

Disconnect the bracket flex cable. Remove the bracket.

Disconnect the speaker flex cable. Lift the speaker out.

  1. Taptic Engine: Remove the one 2.3 mm Phillips screw and disconnect the flex cable to remove the Taptic Engine.

Step 8: Remove Battery Adhesive Strips

  • The battery is held by four adhesive strips (two at the bottom, two at the top).

  • Peel tabs: Use tweezers to peel back the black tabs at the edges of the battery.

  • Pull strips: Pull each strip out slowly at a low angle. Keep constant tension without snapping the strip. If it breaks, use a bit of heat or isopropyl alcohol to loosen the remaining adhesive.

Step 9: Remove and Replace Battery

  • Lift the old battery out.

  • Install New Battery: Apply new adhesive strips to the new battery.

  • Alignment: Temporarily connect the battery cable to the logic board to ensure proper alignment before pressing the battery into place. Disconnect it again before proceeding.

Reassembly & Calibration

  1. Reinstall the Taptic Engine and speaker.

  2. Apply new display adhesive to the frame.

  3. Reconnect the display/sensor cables, then finally reconnect the battery.

  4. Reinstall the metal bracket and screws.

  5. Calibrate the Battery:

    • Charge it to 100% and keep charging for at least 2 more hours.

    • Use the iPhone until it shuts off due to low battery.

    • Charge it uninterrupted back to 100%.
