This professional guide covers the complete disassembly and replacement process for the iPhone 11 Battery, including the removal of the lower acoustic and haptic modules to ensure a safe repair.
⚠️ Pre-Repair Precautions
-
Discharge Battery: Before you begin, discharge your iPhone battery below 25%. A charged lithium-ion battery can catch fire and/or explode if accidentally punctured.
-
Power Off: Power off your iPhone before beginning disassembly.
- Battery Calibration: For optimal performance, calibrate your newly installed battery: Charge it to 100% and keep charging it for at least two more hours. Then use your iPhone until it shuts off due to low battery. Finally, charge it uninterrupted to 100%.
Phase 1: Opening the Device
Step 1: Remove Pentalobe Screws

- Remove the two 6.7 mm Pentalobe screws located on either side of the Lightning charging port.
Step 2: Heat the Edge

- Use an heat gun or hair dryer to heat the bottom edge of the iPhone. This softens the adhesive holding the display in place. This softens the waterproof adhesive securing the display.
Step 3: Opening the Phone

1. Suction: Attach a suction cup to the lower half of the screen.

2. Pry: Pull up on the suction cup to create a slight gap between the screen and the rear case. Insert an opening pick.
3. Cut the Adhesive: Slide the pick along the left, right, and bottom edges.
· Caution: Do not insert the pick more than 2-3 mm into the device to avoid damaging internal ribbon cables.
Top Edge: The top is held by clips and adhesive. Gently pull the display assembly slightly down (away from the top edge) to disengage the clips.
Step 4: Open it Like a Book

1. Swing Right: The display cables are on the right side. Open the screen from the left to the right, like opening a book.
2. Support: Prop the screen up against a steady object so it stays vertical. Do not let it hang, as this will strain or tear the delicate cables.
Phase 2: Disconnecting Components
Step 5: Remove Logic Board Cable Bracket

1. Remove the five screws securing the display cable bracket.
2. Lift and remove the metal bracket.
Step 6: Remove Battery Connector Cover

1. Unscrew the three Y000 screws securing the battery connector bracket.
2. Remove the metal bracket.
Step 7: Disconnect the Battery

1. Use a spudger to pry the battery connector up from its socket. Always do this before disconnecting other cables to protect the logic board.

2. Disconnect Screen Cables:
- Disconnect the display cable and the touch (digitizer) cable.
- Disconnect the front sensor assembly connector.
3. Remove the Screen: The display assembly is now fully separated.
Phase 3: Remove Speaker & Taptic Engine (Recommended)
- Removing these gives better access to the battery adhesive strips. If you are experienced, you can also try removing the battery adhesive strips directly.
step 8: Remove the Connector Cover
- Remove the five screws securing the bracket over the Taptic Engine and speaker:
- Lift and remove the bracket.
step 9: Remove the Speaker
1. Peel the tape: Gently peel back the black tape and rubber gasket covering the Taptic Engine connector.
2. Remove Speaker Screws: Remove the six screws holding the speaker in place:
3. Lift the Grounding Clip: Note the small metal grounding clip on the top right; keep it safe for reassembly.
4. Remove Speaker: Lift the top edge of the speaker and pull it out. Be careful of the adhesive seal around the edges.
step 10: Remove the Taptic Engine
- Disconnect: Use a spudger to pry the Taptic Engine connector straight up.
2. Unscrew: Remove the two 1.8 mm Phillips screws.
3. Extract: Lift the Taptic Engine out of the phone. This provides clear access to the bottom battery adhesive tabs.
Phase 4: Battery Removal
step 11: Pull the Adhesive Strips
The iPhone 11 battery is held by 6 stretch-release adhesive strips
- The Technique: Grab the black pull-tabs with tweezers. Pull the strips out slowly and horizontally. Do not pull upward, or they will snap.
- If a strip breaks, apply a few drops of high-concentration (90%+) isopropyl alcohol under the battery or heat the back of the phone to loosen the glue.
step 12: Remove the Old Battery
Once the strips are removed, lift the battery out.
Phase 5: Reassembly & Calibration
-
Clean Residue: Remove any remaining old adhesive from the frame.
-
Install New Adhesive: Apply new adhesive strips to the back of the new battery.
-
Test Fit: Temporarily place the Taptic Engine and Speaker back in to ensure the battery is positioned correctly before pressing it down.
-
Reassemble: Follow the steps in reverse order.
-
Battery Calibration:
-
Charge to 100% and keep charging for at least 2 more hours.
-
Use the phone until it shuts off due to low battery.
-
Charge it uninterrupted back to 100%.
-
Note: After the swap, your iPhone may show an "Important Battery Message" stating it cannot verify the battery is a genuine Apple part. This is normal for DIY repairs and will not affect the battery's performance.
