This professional guide covers the complete disassembly and replacement process for the iPhone 13 Battery, including the removal of the lower acoustic and haptic modules to ensure a safe repair.
⚠️ Pre-Repair Precautions

Battery Safety: Discharge your battery below 25% before starting. A charged lithium-ion battery can catch fire or explode if accidentally punctured.

Power Off: Turn off your iPhone completely before beginning disassembly.
- Waterproofing: Opening the display will compromise the waterproof seals. If you do not replace the adhesive gaskets, your phone will no longer be water-resistant.
Phase 1: Opening the Device
Step 1: Remove Pentalobe Screws
- Remove the two 6.8 mm Pentalobe screws located on either side of the Lightning charging port.
Step 2: Heat the Edge
- Use an heat gun or hair dryer to heat the bottom edge of the iPhone. This softens the adhesive holding the display in place. This softens the waterproof adhesive securing the display.
Step 3: Opening the Phone
1. Suction: Attach a suction cup to the lower half of the screen.
2. Pry: Pull up on the suction cup to create a slight gap between the screen and the rear case. Insert an opening pick.
3. Cut the Adhesive: Slide the pick along the left, right, and bottom edges.
· Caution: Do not insert the pick more than 2-3 mm into the device to avoid damaging internal ribbon cables.
Step 4: Open it Like a Book
1. Swing Right: The display cables are on the left side. Open the screen from the right to the left, like opening a book.
2. Support: Prop the screen up against a steady object so it stays vertical. Do not let it hang, as this will strain or tear the delicate cables.
Phase 2: Remove the Screen
Step 5: Remove the Bracket
1. Remove the three screws securing securing the display and battery connector metal cover.
2. Carefully remove the cover.
3. Remove the three screws securing the front sensor assembly cover plate.
4. Carefully remove the cover.
Step 6: Disconnect the connector
1. Use a plastic spudger to pry the battery connector straight up out of its socket.
2. Use the spudger to disconnect the display cable connector.
3. Use the spudger to disconnect the front sensor assembly connector.
Step 7: Remove the Screen
Carefully lift the old display panel away. It is now completely separated from the phone housing.
Phase 2: Removing the Lower Speaker
To safely and easily remove the adhesive strips and taking out the battery, it is highly recommended to first remove the bottom speaker. If you are experienced, you can also attempt to pull off the adhesive strips directly and lift the battery out.
Step 8: Remove the Lower Speaker

1. Use a screwdriver to remove the 4 screws securing the lower speaker.
2. Carefully remove the speaker from the phone by hand. (Do not use metal tweezers to avoid puncturing the battery).
Phase 3: Remove the Battery

The iPhone 12 Pro Max battery is held by four stretch-release adhesive strips.

Peel the Tabs: Use tweezers to peel back the black tabs at the edges of the battery.

The "Slow Pull":

Grab a tab and pull it horizontally (low angle) away from the battery.

Pull slowly and maintain constant tension. The strip will stretch several times its original length.

If a strip breaks, apply a little heat to the back of the phone and use a plastic card to gently pry the battery up. Never use metal tools to pry the battery.

- Lift out the Battery: Once the strips are removed, the battery will lift out easily.
Phase 4: Reassembly & Calibration

Clean & Seal: Remove any remaining adhesive residue with isopropyl alcohol. Apply new specialized adhesive strips to the battery and a new waterproof gasket to the frame.

Reverse Steps: Reinstall the Taptic Engine, Speaker, and cables in reverse order.

Battery Calibration:

- Charge to 100% and keep charging for at least 2 more hours.
- Use the phone until it shuts off due to low battery.
- Charge it uninterrupted back to 100%.
Pro Tip: After replacement, the iPhone may display an "Important Battery Message" regarding the "genuine" status of the part. This is normal for DIY repairs and does not affect the actual performance of a high-quality replacement battery.
