iPhone 13 mini Battery Replacement Tutorial (Step-by-Step)

iPhone 13 mini Battery Replacement Tutorial (Step-by-Step)

LiaoTianna |

This professional guide covers the complete disassembly and replacement process for the iPhone 13 mini Battery, including the removal of the lower acoustic and haptic modules to ensure a safe repair.

⚠️ Pre-Repair Precautions

  • Battery Safety: Discharge your battery below 25% before starting. A charged lithium-ion battery can catch fire or explode if accidentally punctured.

  • Power Off: Turn off your iPhone completely before beginning disassembly.

  • Waterproofing: Opening the display will compromise the waterproof seals. If you do not replace the adhesive gaskets, your phone will no longer be water-resistant.

Phase 1: Opening the Device

Step 1: Remove Pentalobe Screws

  • Use a Pentalobe screwdriver to remove the two 6.7 mm pentalobe screws located at the bottom edge of the iPhone, next to the charging port.

Step 2: Heat the Edge

Heating bottom edge
  • Apply a heat gun or hairdryer to the bottom edge of the iPhone for about 1 to 2 minutes to soften the waterproof adhesive underneath.

Step 3: Opening the Phone

Suction cup placement

1. Apply your suction cup to the lower half of the screen, just above the bottom edge. Pull up on the suction cup with firm, constant pressure to create a slight gap between the front screen glass and the rear housing frame.

2. Immediately insert an opening pick into the gap.

3. Cut the Adhesive:

  • Slide the opening pick back and forth along the bottom edge of the iPhone from left to right to slice through the adhesive.
  • Leave the pick inserted on one side of the bottom edge to prevent the adhesive from resealing.
  • Leave the pick inserted on one side of the bottom edge to prevent the adhesive from resealing.

· Caution: Do not insert your pick more than 3 mm deep, or you risk damaging the fragile ribbon cables located near the edges.

Step 4: Open it Like a Book

1. Once all adhesive around the perimeter is cut, gently swing the display open from the right side to the left (like opening a book, where the spine is on the left).

  • Do not fully separate the screen yet, as it is still firmly connected to the logic board by delicate ribbons.

2. Prop the screen up at about a 90-degree angle against a sturdy object (like a box or a stack of books) to keep it stable.

Phase 2: Remove the Screen

Step 5: Remove the Bracket

1. Locate the metal cover bracket in the lower-middle section of the logic board that protects the screen and battery connectors.

2. Use a screwdriver to remove the screw securing this bracket.

3. Use a pair of tweezers to carefully lift the metal bracket out of the phone and set it aside.

Tip: Keep these screws strictly organized (a magnetic mat is recommended). They are different lengths, and putting a long screw into the wrong hole can cause permanent logic board damage

4. Use screwdrivers to remove the screws securing the front sensor assembly bracket near the top of the phone.

5. Remove the metal bracket.

Step 6: Disconnect the connector

1. Use the pointed tip of a plastic spudger to gently pry the battery connector up and out of its socket on the logic board.

2. Use your spudger to gently pry up and disconnect the display/digitizer cable connectors.

3. Pry up and disconnect the front sensor assembly cable connector (which houses the flood illuminator, ambient light sensor, and microphone).

Step 7: Remove the Screen

Removing old screen

Now that the screen is free from any cable connections, remove the display assembly completely and place it on a clean, scratch-free surface.

Phase 3: Removing the Lower Speaker

To safely and easily remove the adhesive strips and taking out the battery, it is highly recommended to first remove the bottom speaker. If you are experienced, you can also attempt to pull off the adhesive strips directly and then use the included T-shaped opening pick to lift the battery out.

Step 8: Remove the Lower Speaker

1. Use a screwdriver to remove the 4 screws securing the lower speaker.

2. Carefully remove the speaker from the phone by hand. (Do not use metal tweezers to avoid puncturing the battery).

Phase 3: Remove the Battery

The iPhone 13 mini battery is held in place by three stretch-release adhesive strips

1. Use tweezers or your fingers to carefully peel up the black plastic pull tabs from the edges of the battery.

2. The "Slow Pull":

  • Grab one of the pull tabs and pull it away from the battery at a very low, flat angle (keep it as close to the flat bottom of the phone as possible).
  • The strip will stretch to several times its original length. Maintain slow, steady, and even tension. Do not yank or pull sharply.

  • What to do if a strip snaps: Drop a few drops of high-concentration isopropyl alcohol into the gap between the battery and the rear case. Let it sit for 1–2 minutes to dissolve the adhesive, then use a plastic spudger to gently pry the battery up. Never use metal tools or sharp objects to pry the battery, as puncturing it can cause a fire or explosion.

3. Lift out the Battery: Once the adhesive strips are removed, lift the old battery out of the phone case.

Phase 4: Reassembly & Calibration

  1. Clean & Seal: Remove any remaining adhesive residue with isopropyl alcohol. Apply new specialized adhesive strips to the battery and a new waterproof gasket to the frame.

  2. Reverse Steps: Reinstall the Taptic Engine, Speaker, and cables in reverse order.

  3. Battery Calibration:

    • Charge to 100% and keep charging for at least 2 more hours.
    • Use the phone until it shuts off due to low battery.
    • Charge it uninterrupted back to 100%.
