This tutorial provides step-by-step instructions for iPhone 15 Plus back glass replacement. If your back glass is shattered, you can refer to this guide to complete the replacement yourself.
⚠️Preparation & Safety Tips
-
Battery Safety: Drain your battery below 25% before starting. A fully charged lithium-ion battery poses a significant safety hazard if accidentally punctured.
-
Glass Protection: If the back glass is severely shattered, apply packing tape over it to prevent injury and hold the pieces together during removal. Ensure there is a smooth, tape-free area near the bottom edge large enough for the suction cup to adhere to.
-
Screw Management: Organize and label all screws meticulously as you remove them. Ensure every single screw goes back into its original hole to prevent damaging internal components with wrong-sized screws.
Phase 1: Opening the Phone
Step 1: Remove the Bottom Screws
- Use a Pentalobe screwdriver to remove the two screws located on either side of the charging port.
Step 2: Heat the Bottom of the Back Glass
- Use a hair dryer or heat gun to apply heat to the bottom edge of the back glass until it feels hot to the touch.
Step 3: Separate the Bottom Edge
- Apply a suction cup to the bottom edge of the back glass.
- Pull up on the suction cup handle with firm, steady pressure to create a small gap between the back glass and the chassis frame.
Step 4: Slice the Edge Adhesive
Note: Do not insert your plastic opening pick more than 3 mm into the bottom edge. Be aware that the right-side flex cables are located near the volume buttons.
- Insert the tip of a plastic opening pick into the gap, then slide it left and right to slice through the bottom adhesive.
- Leave the pick inserted in the bottom-right corner to prevent the adhesive from resealing.
- Heat the right edge of the back glass, then insert another opening pick to slice through that side.
- Repeat the heating and slicing process sequentially for the top and left edges.
Step 5: Swing Open the Back Cover
- Carefully swing the back cover open from the left side to the right side (like opening a book).
- Prop the back glass against a raised object so it stays vertical or tilts slightly to the right to avoid putting tension on the fragile flex cables.
Phase 2: Removing the Back Cover
Step 6: Remove the Protective Covers
1. Use a screwdriver to remove the two screws securing the battery flex cable cover.
2. Remove the battery flex cable cover.
3. Use a screwdriver to remove the single screw securing the wireless charging coil flex cable cover.
4. Remove the charging coil cover.
Step 7: Disconnect the Internal Cables
1. Use a plastic spudger to pry up and disconnect the battery flex cable connector.
2. Use a plastic spudger to pry up and disconnect the charging coil flex cable connector.
Step 8: Remove the Back Cover
- All connections between the back cover and the phone body are now fully disconnected. You can now completely remove the back cover from the chassis.
Phase 3: Cleaning & Reassembly
Step 9: Clean the Frame
- Use a plastic scraping tool to scrape away the old adhesive residue from the frame.
- Dampen a microfiber cloth or cotton swab with high-concentration isopropyl alcohol (90% or higher) and wipe down the metal frame to dissolve remaining residue and thoroughly clean the surface.
Step 10: Reassembly
- Align and apply the new adhesive waterproof seal onto the cleaned frame, then peel off the top protective backing.
- Reconnect the battery and the new back glass flex cables, then reinstall the protective covers and secure them with their screws.
- Carefully align the new back glass with the frame and press down firmly around the edges to seal the phone.
- Reinstall and tighten the two Pentalobe screws next to the charging port.
