This guide provides step-by-step instructions for replacing the glass back cover of the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
⚠️Back Glass Protection
If the back glass is severely cracked or shattered, apply tape over the damaged area to protect yourself from glass fragments and make removal easier. Ensure there is a smooth, intact area near the bottom edge where the suction cup can securely attach.
Stage 1: Opening the Phone
Step 1: Remove the Bottom Screws
Use a Pentalobe screwdriver to remove the two screws located next to the charging port.
Step 2: Heat the Bottom Edge of the Rear Glass
Use a hair dryer or heat gun to warm the bottom edge of the rear glass for approximately 1 minute until it feels warm to the touch. This helps soften the waterproof adhesive underneath.
Step 3: Create an Opening Gap
- Attach the suction cup to the bottom edge of the rear glass.
- Pull upward on the suction cup handle with steady force to create a small gap between the rear glass and the frame.
Step 4: Cut Through the Adhesive Seal
- Insert the tip of a triangular opening pick into the gap.
- Slide the opening pick along the edge to cut through the adhesive.
Step 5: Open the Rear Glass
Open the rear glass from the right side toward the left side.
Stage 2: Removing the Back Cover
Step 6: Remove the Connector Cover
- Use a screwdriver to remove the screw securing the connector cover.
- Remove the cover.
Step 7: Disconnect the Charging Coil Flex Cable
Use a spudger to gently pry up and disconnect the charging coil flex cable.
Step 8: Remove the Back Cover
Once all connections between the rear cover and the phone body have been disconnected, the rear glass assembly can be completely removed.
Stage 3: Cleaning and Reassembly
Step 9: Clean the Frame
- Use a scraper to remove large pieces of deformed or leftover adhesive from the phone frame.
- Use a microfiber cloth or cotton swab dampened with high-concentration isopropyl alcohol (90% or higher) to clean the metal frame and remove any remaining adhesive residue.
Step 10: Reassemble the Phone
- Align and apply the new adhesive seal to the cleaned frame, then remove the top protective film.
- Reconnect the charging coil flex cable from the new rear glass assembly, then reinstall the connector cover.
- Carefully align the rear glass with the frame and press firmly around the edges to secure the seal.
- Reinstall the two Pentalobe screws next to the charging port.
